Step by Step Guide to Export a Preset in Adobe Lightroom

OPTION A

STEP 1: Open Adobe Lightroom and go to the ‘Develop’ module, where you usually make adjustments to your photos.

STEP 2: Locate the Preset on the left-hand side panel, locate the ‘Presets’ panel. Find the custom preset you want to export.

STEP 3: Create a preset: Before exporting, you will need to create a new preset that does not include exposure, white balance, masks, cropping, and any local adjustments. To do this, with your image selected, and the preset applied, click on the ‘+’ sign in the ‘Presets’ panel. Choose ‘Create Preset.’

STEP 4: Export the Customized Preset: Right-click on the newly created preset in the ‘Presets’ panel. Select ‘Export.’ An ‘Export Preset’ window will pop up.

STEP 5: Choose Destination and select folder where you want to save the exported preset. You can rename the preset in the ‘File Name’ field if needed. The preset will be saved as a ‘.xmp’ file, which is the correct file type to send to an editor. Click ‘Save.’

STEP 6: Verify Export. Navigate to the folder where you exported the preset. Verify that the ‘.xmp’ file is there.
